Liberty Flags of our Fathers--The Bonnie Blue Flag

 by Al Benson Jr.

Most Southern patriots are familiar with the Bonne Blue Flag and the song that goes along with it. For a long time I had a Bonnie Blue Flag flying at my house.

The history of that flag goes all the way back to the early 1800s all the way back to when Spain and France had a disagreement as to whether West Florida was included in the area each country claimed. When Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 he sort of inherited the debate. The inhabitants of West Florida were mostly people that spoke English and they were not real happy with either France or Spain, neither of which could deal with them in English.

A revolt took place in West Florida in 1803, led by the three Kemper Brothers. And while it was not successful, it told the Spanish they had better start taking the English-speaking folks in West Florida a bit more seriously. So Spain started dribbling out a few more liberties to them. A second revolt ensued in 1810, led by a Major Isaac Johnson He led a march to the capital in Baton Rouge, which was captured in late September of that year. A new flag was then raised over the fort there, which consisted of a single white star on a field of dark  blue. Shortly afterward a Declaration of Independence was passed and the Republic of West Florida came into being. The same flag was then adopted as their national flag.

The Republic was rather short-lived. In late October U. S. President James Madison proclaimed that West Florida was, in reality, part of the Louisiana Territory. The U. S. flag was then raised over the fort, but, by this juncture, the  image of the Bonnie Blue Flag had burned itself into the memories of  the Southern folks in that area as a symbol of liberty.

When the Republic of Texas came into being a similar flag was adopted, with Texas still being known as the Lone Star State. And in January of 1861, when Mississippi seceded from the Union and established the Republic of Mississippi, another blue flag with a single star was raised in Jackson.

In the audience at that event in Jackson was an Irish actor named Harry McCarthy. He was inspired to compose lyrics pertaining to the flag and he set them to a tune from where he was born. He called his turn The Bonnie Blue Flag.

Some say this became the first flag of The Confederate States, but there is some debate over that. Whether it was accurate or not, the Bonnie Blue became, at least, an unofficial Confederate flag and still is today. The lyrics of McCarthy's tune are still enough, even today, to stir the hearts of Southern patriots. If you want to see or hear the words of the song just go on the net and type in Lyrics for the Bonnie Blue Flag into a search engine. You will probably find several different videos or sets of lyrics for the tune.

Welcome to (almost) "Free Mississippi"

by Al Benson Jr.

Welcome to (almost, but not quite) free Mississippi, where your state flag is not welcome on college campuses and where you can be threatened with arrest if you dare to carry it on campus. The folks that run many of these colleges and universities, not only in Mississippi but in other parts of the country as well are cultural Marxists, which means, in plain language that they are often the "nice" Marxists. They won't cut your throat but they will try to steal your kids' heritage from them. And if they happen to work at a state college then you are paying them to do this with your tax money. Comforting thought isn't it?

So the state flag is no longer welcome at Ole Miss and other places in Mississippi as well. But the people that run many of these centers of "education" would be more than willing to have Communist flags on campus, or flags representing the black liberation movement or the transgender movement. This, they believe, would demonstrate their penchant for "diversity" or multi-culturalism or whatever they are calling their particular brand of prejudice nowadays. I'm sure that when folks start to catch on they will change the names again.

I remember, years ago now, a school I knew about on the East Coast (the original Left Coast) brought in an identified Communist to teach the kids committed to their charge how to do "community organizing." When a local pastor called them on that they told him "We like to expose our students to all different viewpoints." Of course having someone from the John Birch Society in to lecture the students would never, and I mean never, have occurred to them. They wanted to be diverse but not THAT diverse!

Same situation in Mississippi. The educational elders in many of these schools welcome diversity, as long as it is a diversity from the left. The right is not worth mentioning--and they don't, anymore than they are forced to except to scream about how those on the right are all "racist, sexist, homophobes, Islamaphobes, and "deplorables." Sound familiar? The erstwhile candidate that is running (maybe not as fast as she used to) on the Democratic ticket could have taken her speech about us deplorables from most any college president in the country. But it gives you a really good view of what these folks thinks of us ordinary folks, and it ain't much, but then you already knew that.

So the kids at the University of Mississippi are free to go to the football games as long as they don't take their state flag in with them or as long as they don't bring in a sign requesting that the band play Dixie. The kids could walk in with almost anything else and it wouldn't be nearly as reprehensible as these two items. You have to know that your world has really been turned upside down when your state flag is banned on campus. The Communist Hammer & Sickle would be welcomed but the Mississippi state flag is not. If you are paying attention at all this has to tell you something, and if you're not paying attention then maybe you should be.

Lots of kids showed up with Mississippi state flags for last Saturday's football game at the University of Mississippi--and had them confiscated by campus police. According to an article on http://dailycaller.com "Students who had their flags taken away by police--along with signs declaring 'Let The Band Play Dixie'--said they were threatened with arrest if they did not give them up." So at the University of Mississippi you can be arrested for displaying your state flag. I tell you, folks, that's real progress, a sign of true "liberty" but for who? Certainly not for ordinary Mississippians. How long will it be before flying your state flag on your own property will be forbidden? Don't laugh--it's not as far fetched as it sounds. And if the folks in Mississippi don't stand up and resist this damn-foolishness it may well come to that.

I noted one positive event at the university's football game last week--a whole batch of students got together and unfurled a 20' by 30' Mississippi state flag in the student section. Someone sent me a photo of it on Facebook and it had to have caught someone's attention as big as it was, but it also showed that those students who held it up there for everyone to see must still have had some pride in and thankfulness for their state flag and its heritage. I don't know if the police eventually confiscated this one or if someone managed to sneak it out wrapped in their jacket or not but it was good to see the picture. It showed that, at some level, not quite all the students had bought into this cultural Marxism that is so cloyingly present on so many campuses, even in the South. With the Lord's help and guidance there may yet be hope, but the battle is far from over and far from won. And those who want to preserve their heritage, faith, and culture need to learn to "keep the skeer on" because you can bet our adversaries plan on doing that.

Southern Baptists Cave In To Cultural Marxists--so what else is new?

by Al Benson Jr.

Well, on the issue of the Southern Baptist Convention caving in to the cultural Marxists regarding the Confederate flag I can't say that I am at all happy about it, but on the other hand neither am I overly surprised. Most churches today don't even begin to recognize cultural Marxism for what it is--Marxism taken to a whole new level, and what's more, most couldn't care less. As long as they can conduct some sort of a service on Sunday morning they don't much worry about the rest of it.

The Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet Union conducted morning services through most of the time the Communists remained in apparent power and the church hierarchy was loaded with KGB agents who made sure that the Sunday faithful were fed the Party line. They may have been thoroughly propagandized each week, but they did have their Sunday service, if such it could be called.

I often wonder, after a few of the churches we've attended over the years, how much difference there really is. When it comes to what happens out in the world most Christians are totally naive, couldn't care less, and are happy to have it so. No real responsibility for the culture that way except to complain when it gets so anti-Christian they can't stand it anymore. That they might have done something to prevent that never once occurs to them. Churches in this country have been feeding on the tainted bread of cultural Marxism since the end of the War of Northern Aggression and the task of the cultural Marxists in the seminaries and among the clergy has been to make sure they learned to like it. They have mostly succeeded.  And so the decision of the SBC regarding the Confederate battle flag comes as no real surprise. I would have been pleasantly surprised had they voted to leave it alone, but in my heart of hearts I guess I realized that would not happen.

An article in The Dallas Morning News  by Hannah Wise, on June 14th, said: "The Confederate battle flag is a symbol of racism that should not be used, Southern Baptists declared in a resolution approved Tuesday at their national meeting." The original proposal did stir some debate and prompted one call for the withdrawal of the proposal, but that wasn't going to happen. A milder version was floated later on and according to the Morning News it was "...not as strongly worded as the original and calls for Christians to 'discontinue' the flag's display." So the SBC calls for Christians to "discontinue the flag's display." Let them speak for themselves. Whatever Confederate flags I have, and I have several, will not be taken down to satisfy the whims of the cultural Marxist crowd that has as its agenda the total destruction of all Southern, Confederate, and Christian culture, and those Christians that give in to them in the name of "inclusiveness" are helping to seal the destruction of their culture and that of their children and grandchildren. And they will live to regret it someday, but by the time they wake up and realize what they have done it may well be way too late and they will discover that they have sold their heritage for a mess of socialist pottage which quite frankly, turns the stomach and sickens the soul.

I recall, years ago now, that I read where Richard Land, one of the leaders in the SBC at that time had been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the premier One World Government organization in this country. I have often wondered if what Mr. Land did as a member of the CFR had any effect on his denominational affiliation and its program. You all be the judges of that.

I can't speak for others, but if I belonged to the SBC I would seriously think of looking for another church, one that was willing to leave the symbols of my culture alone--most especially when those symbols have their foundation in Christianity. One has to wonder, given the intellectual and historic softness so apparent in most churches today, when some cultural Marxist person or group will come along and, with a little persuasive language, get Christians to denounce the cross of Christ because of its "non-inclusiveness" in the society around it.

They Want Your Votes But Leave Your Flags At Home Please!

by Al Benson Jr.

Well, just last week the "conservative" House in Sodom on the Potomac voted to ban Confederate flags from flag poles in national cemeteries even on days when they had heretofore been allowed. The vote was 265-159.  The promoter of this choice bit of cultural Marxism  pontificated on the passage of his bill, observing that the flag represents "racism, slavery and division." Now where do you suppose he came up with that mouthful? Sounds like he's been reading the NAACP playbook on how to destroy Southern heritage in one easy lesson.

And you thought the ethnic cleansing was all over! Haven't figured out the game plan yet have you?

Last year some of us told you this would happen, that when the cultural Marxists got enough resistance they would back off for awhile until your ardor cooled and you took down your Confederate flags that you had put up in protest last summer. Well, lots of you all cooled down, took your flags down, and proceeded to go back to sleep. Eternal vigilance you didn't have and the cultural Marxists realized that and knew all they had to do was wait until you fell asleep at the switch again and they could then clobber you anew and it would be that much harder for you to get back up and fight back again now like you did then. Folks, they have got this kind of thing down to a science while we're still playing games!

We have yet to begin to discern their tenacity and their agenda, but they already know that, after a certain amount of time we will tuck tail and go home, thinking it's all over, thinking we did our bit last year and now we can go back to the ball game or the bass fishing or whatever. Welcome to Round Two!

I've noticed here in North Louisiana that the number of Confederate flags flying has been drastically reduced in the past few months. The leftists backed off and we sat down and turned the boob tube back on and once we got fixated on it again they snuck up on us and kicked us in the stomach when our back was turned.

Now we are wondering what happened. We thought we'd done all this last year and now we've got to do it all over again you're telling us? That's what I am saying and not only that, we've got to do it all over again and keep on doing it!  That's part of our problem--no sticktoativity.  They've got it--we don't! And until we start to get it they are always going to win because they keep on with their agenda and after awhile we get tired and go home thinking we've done our bit, so lets let Leon (Trotsky) do it for awhile--and he does and then we find out we don't like that.

So the flags came down. So let's put them back up again this year--and this time leave them up! And let's start checking out those House critters that voted for this monstrosity. How many came from the South? Get a list of them and how they voted. I got one off http://www.gopusa.com  for May 19th. It's probably still up. Find our what your House critter did, how he/she/it, voted and if they voted for this horrendous bill then start informing people you know and start working to defeat them in the next election they have to run in. Expose their vote in letters to the editor, on Facebook, however you can. And keep on opposing and exposing what the cultural Marxists are trying to do to your culture. Don't get halfway through the Summer, stop to watch the All-Star game and then forget to get up again. The cultural Marxists in Washington and elsewhere are counting on your doing that, so learn to throw them a curve ball and keep up your resistance to what they are trying to do. The culture you save, with a bit of persistence might just be your own--and that of your children and grandchildren. They always have to be taken into the equation.

The cultural Marxists understand only one thing--resistance.  So lets start giving them some--on an ongoing basis.

Cultural Genocide From a Generational Perspective

by Al Benson Jr.

For the past few weeks I have been watching the national reaction to the shooting at the black church in Charleston, South Carolina and the gigantic fuss being made of the Confederate flag in regard to that.

In my opinion this is shaping up like a well-managed psy-ops campaign to rid the South of not only guns, but also the symbols of her culture and heritage. If one said that situations like this seldom happen by accident he would be pretty close to the truth.

They started out by working to remove all Confederate flags they could in Southern states. The political hacks we have for politicians have been lining up to see who could be the first to remove Confederate flags.  The governors of South Carolina and Alabama seem to have won that questionable race while it looks like Mississippi might end up a distant third, depending on how much noise her voters make over the issue.

Now we have started to see the emergence of a campaign to remove all Confederate statues as well. This gives the Cultural Genocide campaign against the South a more enduring perspective. Statues are something that usually remain for generations and people from all generations see them. Youngsters in the upcoming generation see them and often ask their parents why this statue is here and what it represents and, if the parents have a clue,  they can usually explain to the kids the reason for the statue.

If the statues end up being removed, along with the flags, then part of your past culture ends up missing, and if your kids never see it they don't know what it represented and can't ask.

Folks, I grew up in the North. In my growing-up years I never saw much that passed for regional culture except the Yankee mindset that everyone should think like they did.

In the South you have had a vibrant, traditional and regional culture that I have enjoyed. It's part of the reason my wife and I are here. And the politically correct Cultural Marxist crowd is trying to kill that as quickly as they can. You can't let them do it, because, once it is dead, you will never get it back.

Begin to realize that "those people" are trying to purposely destroy your culture, which has a Christian base, and that this is the main object of their agenda. You have got to stand up and resist this. Weeping and moaning on the sidelines won't cut it--you have got to fight back! Find ways to resist every attempt they make to remove your culture because  what they are really doing is to try to make sure your children inherit not culture whatever.  Years ago I heard a man say "The 'new' South is NO South!" He said that in a speech and although I didn't agree with some of the other things he said, he was right on target with that comment.  A region bereft of its history and traditions is a region already dead, and, from the neck up, its people are dead. This is the Cultural Marxists' plan for the South.

Franklin Sanders, in the October, 2014 issue of The Moneychanger said, and quite accurately, "Make no mistake! For any people the past is their life. Cut  off from their past, a people cannot have any future. Their future dies. So it is not trivial when they attack your flag--they are not attacking merely that symbol, but everything that symbol represents, your religion, your culture, and ultimately you. They want to destroy the culture because they want to destroy you. They understand that without your past, they destroy your future."

Even fictional writers realize this. West Texas author Elmer Kelton (now deceased) once wrote at the end of one of his books: "All history is relevant today, because the way we live--the values we believe in--are a result of the molds prepared for us by our forebears a long time ago. We are the products of the preparation of those who came before us." Another fictional writer, Louis L'Amour (also deceased) said basically the same thing. He wrote: "We must not lose touch with what we were, with what we had been, nor must we allow the well of our history to dry up, for a child without tradition is a child crippled before the world."

That is exactly what the Cultural Marxists want for your kids--first across the South and then all across the rest of the country--a generation crippled before the world. They want a Southland ashamed of its history and heritage and supine on the ground so that when they kick it, it will not even whimper! They want a Southland unaware of its Christian foundations and ashamed of what it is aware of, and if "those people" have their way that won't be much--except for the slavery issue.  The fact that the North once had slaves also will NEVER  be mentioned. All some of them will ever be ashamed of is that, when they sold their slaves south, they didn't make more on the deal.

So don't just take my word for it. Look at what those men I have quoted in this article have all said, and they have basically said the same thing, totally independent of one another! There was no grand design on their part to help each other preserve Southern heritage--but you can't say the same for the Cultural Marxists that are working to destroy Southern heritage and culture. They work together and they have a plan, which hopefully you are beginning to see if you hadn't before, to see the fruit of their efforts. Get rid of all Confederate flags. Get rid of any Confederate statuary, get rid of all street, school, and bridge names, and park names that have anything to do with the Old Confederacy. All Confederate memory must be wiped off the slate. The next generation must have NOTHING  whatever in their memories to relate to the Old South and/or those that fought for it (except slavery naturally).

They plan to totally brainwash the next generation so they will have nothing worthwhile about their past to refer back to--and if they have no past, then they have no future--except that which the Cultural Marxists have planned for them.

If we refuse to stand up and resist this orchestrated cultural purge then we will deserve exactly what we get. If we won't stand up and resist the destruction of our future generations' culture and heritage, the day will come when our descendants may well curse us because we did not leave them anything worthwhile or worth fighting for. We will have left them "crippled before the world" and, if at some point, they curse us for that, they will be justified in so doing.

And someday we will have to stand before the Lord and answer as to why we would not stand up for those good things He provided for us, and why our "reality shows" were more important than our culture, heritage, and history. People can lie to one another about why they couldn't be bothered to speak out for what was right, but they won't be able to lie to the Lord. He already knows the answer.

So, if Southern folks can't be bothered to stand up and defend a culture that has a Christian base and to try to pass that along to their children, then they will have to answer.

To Southern Folks: The Republican Party Will Not Save You (and they are not really trying to)

by Al Benson Jr.

Too many folks here in the South really believe that the Republican Party is the "party of small government" that is out there manfully trying to protect them from the "liberal Democrats." It sounds so good when you read the Republican Party literature during an election year. Unfortunately, much of what sounds good to people often turns out to be bovine fertilizer and the Republican "concern" for limited government is one of the biggest piles of that around.

The Republican Party is not really concerned about limited government and if you look at their history, there have really been very few times when they were. Their first presidential candidate, John C. (pathfinder) Fremont back in 1856 leaned to the left politically, and when the War of Northern Aggression commenced he had several Forty-eighter socialists under his command. Donnie Kennedy and I have documented this in our book Lincoln's Marxists. Their next candidate, Abraham Lincoln, was just as far to the left, but the "history" books don't bother to tell you any of that. Better for the establishment if you don't know. Except, thanks to authors like Tom DiLorenzo, the word is getting out about what Lincoln really was, and there are others as well.

Today I read an article on LewRockwell.com by Paul Gottfried called  Neocons Hate the South. Mr. Gottfried noted that since the shootings in Charleston "GOP officials have been scrambling to comply with leftist demands that Southern whites be stripped of visible signs of their Confederate heritage. The GOP has actually been downplaying the Confederacy for years..." I recall, a few years back now, when Cheney was Vice-President, someone of note in the South passed away and the was a Confederate flag at the funeral home where he was displayed. Cheney refused to even go in until that Confederate flag was removed. This is your Republican's "love" for the South and your heritage. Gottfried noted that: "Neoconservatives have long stood out from other Republicans and members of Conservatism Inc. by virtue of the intensity of their loathing for the white South." And at this point in time, it seems that these are the people that control the Republican Party. The Republicans don't hesitate to use the Southern vote to help them gain control of Congress--but look at what has happened since they got control in November, 2014. Has government gotten any smaller? Are the Republicans really trying to stave off the efforts of the "liberal" Democrats for more and bigger government? Hardly! What has happened is that the public, if they really take the trouble to look, will find that what we really have in Washington is a melding together of both political parties into one group and it is predominently liberal/left in its outlook and the Republicans, for all their "conservative" rhetoric are more than willing to go along with much of what Comrade Obama has planned for the country.

So our path down the road to some sort of European socialism will be promoted by two political parties who claim to disagree with one another but who are willing to work together to forge the chains of socialism around the necks of the American people.

And they particularly want to forge those chains on people in the South because that is the region that balks most consistently against the wiles of big government. Make no mistake about it--both parties in Washington hate your guts of you are Southern. You stand for everything that their One World government agenda is opposed to. The South is the last part of the country that even makes any pretention to the Christian faith, and that is their real enemy. Christ and the Confederacy have to go in the South and so all symbols and flags that remind anyone of either one must be purged--and the Republicans will work just as eagerly at that as will any black NAACP member! They hate your faith. They hate your heritage. They want them both gone and you had better wake up and realize that.

As for Confederate flags and monuments we are going to have to start looking for private property to put them on, preferably along highways where they have some visibility. But we can pretty well figure, with the present purge, that any "public" property will not be healthy for our heritage. I've just read where they have, in Memphis, decided to dig up Bedford Forrest and his wife and to re-inter them somewhere less "public" than where they are now. I suppose at this point the authorities in Memphis are on the lookout for some "potter's field" out in the boonies where they hope no one will ever go to rebury them.

Folks, I've stated before in articles that the Republican Party ain't your friend and that if you really are conservative or patriotic then you need to start looking somewhere else. Folks in the South have got to start looking for another political savior because the Republicans won't cut the mustard--and actually there is no salvation in politics anyway. North or South, only the Lord can straighten out the mess we find ourselves in today so maybe we had better get on our knees and ask Him what He wants us to do--and if the mess is to be straightened out He will want us to do something, not just sit it out and wait for the "rapture."

NASCAR Plans to Eliminate Confederate Flag

by Al Benson Jr.

Just this morning (6/29) I published an article on http://revisedhistory.wordpress.com about the ethnic cleansing (Cultural Marxism) going on presently in Marxist Memphis, Tennessee. I would encourage those reading this to go and check it out. One writer, commenting on all this called it a "Stalinist purge" and I agree with his take on the current situation. He's figured it out. Lots of these other commentators don't have the first clue.

Shortly after I posted that I came across a short article from GOPUSAEagle which noted that now NASCAR president Brian France plans to work to make sure that NASCAR is no longer, in any way, connected to the Confederate flag. He said: We want to go as far as we can to eliminate the presence of that flag at NASCAR events."

That's a pretty straight forward statement for Southern folks to digest, if they will take the trouble to do it. Your money is welcome as NASCAR because it will enrich their coffers, but your flags are not welcome, so bring your cash and leave your flag at home.

I've never bothered much with car racing, at least not for several decades now, but I will tell you one thing--if NASCAR spit on my heritage they way they have spit on Southerners heritage, I'd never darken the door of one of their tracks again. If you don't need my flag then you don't need my money either. It'd  be nice to see 5,000 Confederate flags at some NASCAR event in the near future. One wonders if the track officials would throw out all those that carried them, not let them in, or what.

What would be even better would be for Southern folks who truly revere their cultural heritage to just stop patronizing NASCAR events. They are willing to spit in your face and on your flag while taking your money, which shows they really have no concern for their clientele except what's in their wallets. If I still attended car races anywhere, I'd be strongly attempted to start boycotting NASCAR events.

One Major Southern Problem--Public Schools, Part 2

by Al Benson Jr.

Horace Mann received much support in his endeavor to kill the influence of Christian education from people like Robert Owen, the British socialist who came to this country and founded the socialist colony at New Harmony, Indiana in the late 1820s. Owen was the man whose socialist scheme in Indiana "lighted up (Abraham) Lincoln's heart" according to Lincoln's biographer, Carl Sandburg, himself a socialist.

So the foundation of public education in this country was clearly anti-Christian--and if that was the case in the beginning, then how, pray tell, do you get it back to the "good old days?" There never were any "good old days" in public education. All there were, if you perceive events correctly, were times years ago when the anti-Christianity and socialism were a little less evident than now, but they were still there. If the root of the tree is rotten, you can't improve it by lopping off a few small branches and labeling it "school reform." Unfortunately, most Christians in the last 160 years have never figured that out.

After the public school system had operated in Yankeeland for about thirty years, one generation, along came the War of Northern Aggression.  When the shooting part of that war was over, then what is euphemistically called "reconstruction" was instituted, starting in the South--and guess what came South with the Carpetbaggers? You got it--the public school system, complete with Yankee school teachers and textbooks, all designed to show the benighted South the path of true salvation--not through Jesus, but through the State. Up until that point, you hadn't had a public school "system" in the South. Here and there you had parentally-controlled local schools, and that was it because that was enough. As part of the Yankee/Marxist "reconstruction" you got the public school system you have all come to know and love.

I have one question no one has yet been able to answer. Most Southern folks I know that know anything at all, hate "reconstruction" and justifiably so. I hate it and what it did to the South, and I was born in the North. If you hate "reconstruction" why do you love public schools? They are a major part of what you profess to hate. Have folks in the South finally been brainwashed to the point where they now love "Big Brother?"

You will never even begin to preserve your culture, history, and heritage in any lasting way until you start to realize what the public school brainlaundering has done to you and your kids and you start taking them out of public schools and either putting them in Christian schools or teaching them at home. It's hard for folks to grasp this because they were brainwashed in the exact same way their kids are being brainwashed now.

However, we need to ask the Lord's help so we can begin to think outside the public school box. I would exhort folks to think about this and to ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they seek to deal with what they need to do regarding the education of their children.

I recently read an article that asked the question, "Are Christians who put their kids in public schools committing a sin?" The upshot of the article was that, if they are unaware of what the public schools are all about, then, no, they are not, but if they have some knowledge of what the public schools are and still choose to leave their kids in them, then they have a major problem. There are many instances where parents have no other alternative. But there are also many instances where parents do have the possibility of Christian alternatives and they just don't bother, or worse, yet, because their kids are in public school, they stand up and defend public education. Again, they don't know the history of public education in this country, or they don't want to know it. Either way they have a problem they will, at some point, have to deal with.

Either way, the South has to deal with the public education problem. If it does not, it will cease to exist as a viable entity and a culture that had a Christian worldview will be lost forever.

One Major Southern Problem--Public Schools

by Al Benson Jr.

Although I am writing this, frankly, I don't expect very many people will want to pay much attention to it. You see, it will go against the grain of the propaganda they have been fed and ingested for well over the past century or so, and to do something about the problem would involve personal responsibility, and most folks today flee personal responsibility as they would the plague.

The small North Louisiana town I live in thinks the local public schools there are the greatest thing since sliced bread. The possibility that the local public schools there may be brainwashing their children is the last thing they want to hear, and so if you dare to approach the subject they just tune you out. "Don't confuse me with the facts, please." It's so much better to remain ignorant, then I don't have to DO anything. This is the typical attitude in town and cities across the South, and the rest of the country, too.

The public school is sacrosanct. It is the sacred cow.  The only time anyone ever dares question it is if their kid wears a Confederate flag tee shirt to school and gets sent home for that. The black kid next to him may have a Malcolm X tee shirt on, but that's okay. It gets an automatic pass, just like the tee shirt with the "gay pride" stuff all over it. These are okay, by public school standards today, but your kid's Confederate flag tee shirt has to come off, immediately if not sooner. If the parents decide to protest this, the result is usually far from satisfactory.

I've talked with folks whose kids or grandkids come home from public school spouting anti-Confederate propaganda about how the Confederate flag is "racist." I despise the term "racist" because it is of Trotskyite origin and every time we use it we are playing on our opponents' turf. Same thing when we argue with the local public school bureaucrat about our kid's Confederate flag tee shirt--we are playing on their turf and it's a battle we will seldom win. They already know that. We haven't figured it out yet.

Rather than going through an exercise in exasperation, what we should start doing is just taking the kids out of public school. What we need to do when a problem arises is to just go and state our position politely and then inform the local education commisar "my child will not be returning to your school again." Don't fuss, fume, or get ticked off--the educrat likes that and it gives him or her a reason to put their thumb down on you as a "recalcitrant parent." So don't fuss, just take the kid out. End of conversation! That will derpive the local school district of, depending on where you live, anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000 per year in federal money.  And if there were a big enough flap over Confederate symbols in one particular area and ten people had the guts to remove their kids from the public system, you can see where that would cost the local public brain laundry some serious money.

Most Southern folks seem to have the opinion that the local public school is second cousin to God, motherhood and apple pie--and it just ain't so. It never was. People love to prattle about the "good old days" when they went to public school and how much better it would be if we could just go back to that. Sorry to disillusion you, but those "good old days" never really existed.  The public school's foundations were bad from day one.  Public schools, as we now have them, were originally started up in New England, Massachusetts to be specific. The major mover and shaker in starting them was a man named Horace Mann. You may even have seen schools named after him, I have. But do you really know doodly sqat about him?

Horace Mann was a Unitarian. Know what that is? Know what Unitarians believe? They are people, calling themselves Christians, who do not recognize the Deity of Jesus Christ, who think Jesus may have been a great moral example and teacher, but definitely not the Son of God. What really bothered Mann was the influence of church schools in his area. In fact, that bothered him so much that he sought to come up with a way to counteract it.

He didn't think kids should be influenced by Christian education, that they would be better off in "secular" (humanist) schools, run by the state and regulated by the state, where Christian ideas and influence could be muted, and eventually done away with.
